ROUTE I (Northern Section): Florina - Pyrgoi

The E4 starts from Florina in the direction of the abandoned village of Koryfi (3.30 hours walk), which we bypass following the road to Vitsi and Nymfaio (8 hours walk total 44 km). In the village there is a hotel and a restaurant.

From Nymfaio, after a walk of 5.30 hours (19 km) through dense beech and oak forests with running water, we reach the small town of Xino Nero. From Xino Nero we reach the settlement of Agios Panteleimon by bus or taxi, on the shores of Lake Vegoritida (7 km) via Amynteo. From Amynteo there is a path to Agios Panteleimon, but it is necessary to stay overnight in Amynteo (there is only one 5-star hotel).

From Agios Panteleimon (20' route by boat) we arrive at the village Maniaki (the restaurant in Agios Panteleimon notifies the fishermen with the boats). From Maniaki after a 1.30'hour hike (7 km) we reach the village Pyrgi. Overnight stay in tents or houses that can host you.

Pyrgi - Seli

From Pyrgi, we follow the road and start to climb the slopes of Vermio, crossing forests and pastures, and reach an altitude of 1,800 meters, then descend to the shelter Tria Pigadia (route 7 hours), where we stay overnight. There are springs along the way.

EOS Naoussa is responsible for booking a place.

From the shelter Tria Pigadia we ascend through a dense beech forest to the location Pente Pigadia (1,800 m.) where there is a spring. From there, again through the forest and pastures, we reach the shelter Seli.

For booking a place, S.X.O. Veria is responsible. Fro the route Pyrgi - Seli, EOS Naoussa is responsible.



Panagia Soumela - Rhizomata

From the shelter Seli, and after a course of 7 hours, we reach Panagia Soumela, through the plain "Karatsair" and the settlement Xirolivado. In Panagia Soumela there is a guest house and a restaurant. It is not possible to stay at the hostel from 10-20 August.

From Panagia Soumela we descend to the village Kastania, we continue to the village Sfikia, through the dam of Aliakmonas, and we reach the village Rizomata (600 m.) after 8 hours walk (we find water towards the end of the route), where we spend the night in houses, after consultation with the community secretary.

In order to cross the dam, it is necessary to notify the Management of the Hydroelectric factory, tel (0331) 29714, 22645. The management of the factory will notify the S.H.O. Of Veria.

Responsible for the route is S.X.O. Of Veria.



Derveni - Litochoro

From Rizomata we ascend the slopes of Pieria to Derveni, crossing a beech forest, and then we reach the village Katafygi in Kozani after a walk of 6 hours. Overnight can be done in rooms for rent, or in the shelter located in Thesi Bara, 6 hours from the village of Rizomata. For reservations at the shelter, S.E.O. Kozani is responsible.

From the Kozani shelter we follow the path to the shelter, we cross the plateau of Avdela to Toufa Karageorgi and, through coniferous forests and beeches, we reach the shelter Ano Milies after about 6 hours.

Responsible for booking is EOS Katerini.

From the shelter Ano Milies, following the marked path, we reach the village Mesaia Milia -2.30' hours road- and then to Kato Milia, following the asphalt road of 4 km.

From Kato Milia, and crossing the road of Katerini Elassona, we follow the roads to the villages Lofos, Vrontou, Dion and end up in Litochoro where there is a possibility to spend the night in hotels and rooms for rent.

Responsible for the route Derveni-Litochoro is EOS. Katerini.



Scolio - Livadero

From Litochoro, following the path to the ravine of Enipeas, we reach Prionia (1,000 m.) in 4 hours. From Prionia another 3 hours drive and we reach the A' shelter of Olympus (2,100 m.) where there is a possibility of overnight stay. EOS Litochoro is responsible for booking a place.

From A' shelter, the path to ascends is very steep uphill to the top of Skolio (2,911 m.) -3 hours- and continues to the village of Kokkinoplos (1,200 m.) after a total course of 8 hours. There is water one hour before we reach the village. This course is characterized as 5th degree difficulty.

In the village of Kokkinoplos there are hotels, rooms to let and restaurants.

From Kokkinoplos, after walking on paths and carriage road, we arrive at 4.30 hours in the village Livadi Olympou, where overnight stay is provided at the municipal hostel.

From Livadi Olympou the path continues smoothly to Sarandaporo - 4 hours walk. We take the new road Elassona-Kozani in the direction of Tsapournia, an easy journey of one hour. The village has rooms for rent and is offered for overnight.

From Tsapournia the path continues to the forested areas of the mountain Kamvounia and after 3 hours we reach the village of Livadero. Overnight in Livadero is problematic as there are no rooms or guest house.

Responsible for the Skolio-Livadero route is EOS. Elassona



Livadero - Flampouresio

From Livadero we continue the route to Kamvounia, and after 6 hours we arrive in Deskati, where there are hotels and restaurants. From Deskati, following south roads to the villages Flampouresio and Kastraki, we reach Meteora -2 days total course-. This route can be done by bus or taxi, as it is not interesting.

In Kastraki and Meteora there are Campings, hotels, rooms to let, restaurants etc.

Responsible for the route Livadero-Flampouresio is the F.O.H.S. Deskati

ROUTE II (middle section): Meteora - Vraggiana

From Meteora, following the path to Mount Kerketio, we reach the village of Glykomilia. Overnight stay in houses. From Glykomilia we continue to Elati, where there is a hotel and a restaurant. The total route Meteora-Elati is about 10 hours. From the village of Elati and entering the area of South Pindos, we arrive in 4 hours in the village of Stournareiko where overnight stay in houses is provided.

The route Stournareika - Thesi Gropa (12 km public road) is better done by bus. From Thesi Gropa the path ascends to Achladia (1,700 m.) and then descends to Argithea -7 hours walk.

In the village of Argithea there is a guest house and restaurants. From Argithea we follow the paths and the forest roads to the mountain Karava and then to the village Vlasio to reach the village Petrilo, where there is a guest house for overnight and restaurants. The route has many water springs.

From the village of Petrilo we go up to the pass, then down to the village of Koutsessa, uninhabited in winter and we reach the village of Vraggiana (6 hours walk) where there is a community hostel and restaurants.

Responsible for the route Meteora - Vraggiana is the HOS. Trikala



Vraggiana - Krikello

From Vraggiana we descend the Gorge of Agrafiotis, follow the path to the village Tridendro, cross the river and arrive after a walk of 5.30 hours to the village Agrafa, where there are rooms for rent for overnight.

From Agrafa, following the road and after a course of 5 hours, we reach the settlement of Varvariada on the banks of Agrafiotis. From Varvariada we follow the public road (12 km) to Kerasochori, where there is a guest house for overnight. From Varvariada there is a possibility of bus or taxi also to Karpenissi.

From Kerasochori we continue to Viniani and, following the path on the slopes of Timfristos, we reach the town of Karpenissi. From Karpenissi, we take the direction to the village of Kallithea (1 hour walk, there is a spring), we continue to the village Myriki (45' walk, there is a spring), and following forest roads and 2 km asphalt road, we reach the village Krikello after a walk of 4-5 hours. There are hotels and restaurants in Krikello.

Responsible for the route Vraggiana-Krikello is EOS. Karpenisi



Krikello - Kaloskopi

From Krikello we take the path to the river Krikellioti and, after a 5 hour walk, we reach paths and a forest road to the villages Stavropigi (mountain village uninhabited in the winter). In the village there is a guest house and a restaurant. From Stavropigi we follow the signs to the villages Modrini (2 hours walk, there is a spring), Lefka 2.30 hours walk, to reach the village Grammeni Oxia - approximately 1.30 hours walk. In Grammeni Oxia there are hostels and restaurants.

From Grammeni Oxia we take the path to Kato Chorio and then cross the river Evinos, to go up to Artotina, where there is a hotel, rooms to let and restaurants. From Artotina we ascend to the NE slope of Gidovounos (1,500 m.), cross the Mousounitsiotika Livadia, descend the steep path to Profitis Ilias, to reach after 6.30 hours the village Athanasios Diakos. In the village there is a hotel, rooms to let and restaurants.

From Athanasios Diakos we follow the road to Kato Mousounitsa, we cross the river Mornos, to reach the village Stromi after a walk of 3.30 hours (there is a spring). The course continues uphill on forest roads for 3.30 hours until Kaloskopi, where there is a hotel, rooms to let and a restaurant.

Responsible for the route Krikello-Kaloskopi is EOS Lamia.



Kaloskopi - Delphi

From Kaloskopi we have to walk until the 51st km of the road Lamia-Amfisa, in order to take the path to Gero-Lekka. This route is recommended by taxi or bus.

From the 51st km we take the rather difficult path crossing the fir forest to the top Gero-Lekka (1,700 m.) through the spring Argostilia, and we reach the village Eptalofo after 7 hours walk. In Eptalofos there are hotels, rooms to let and restaurants.

From the village of Eptalofo, we climb the mule road to the plateau (3 hours walk) and continue on the forest road and paths descending to Delphi (3 hours walk). Delphi is the last stop before crossing to the Peloponnese.

Responsible for the route Kaloskopi-Delphi is the HOS. Amfisa

ROUTE III (South Section): Delphi - Diakofto

From Delphi, after a walk of about 3 hours through olive groves and springs, we reach Kirra, from where we take the bus to the port of Agios Nikolaos, from where the ferry takes us to Aigio (Peloponnese). From here begins the Southern Section of E4.

From Aigio, after 2.30-3 hours walk through arboriculture, we reach Diakofto, where there are hotels and restaurants.



Diakofto - Kalavrita

From Diakofto we cross the gorge of Vouraikos and after 3 hours we reach the village of Zachlorou. From Zachlorou we continue to Kalavrita (approximately 2.30 hours) where there are hotels, restaurants, etc.



Kalavrita - Planitero

From Kalavrita we follow the signs to the village of Kato Lousous (2.30 hours walk), and continue SE, cross the ravine, where there is a spring, to reach the village Planitero (about 3 hours walk). In Planitero there are rooms for rent and fast-foods.



Planitero - Lycuria

From Planitero, the marked path leads to the villages Arbouna and Agios Nikolaos, through the spring of Aroaneio. From Agios Nikolaos we follow the path to Tourlada, Krinofyta and to Lykouria (7 hours walk). In the village Lykouria there are rooms for rent.



Lykouria - Daras

From Lykouria, the path leads through the springs of Ladonas to the village Pagkratio (approximately 3 hours walk). From Pagratio, after a walk of 1.30 hours, we reach the village Daras. Overnight can be done in Tripoli where they go by bus or taxi.



Daras - Vytina

From Daras, after a 2-hour walk through apple crops and springs, we reach the village Komenitsa and then (1.30 'hours walk) the village Nymfasia, where there we can eat. From Nymfasia we reach Vytina (1,050 m.) in 45', Where there are hotels and restaurants.



Vytina - Mainalo Shelter

From Vytina we follow the route to Levidi and, through forest roads, we reach the shelter (6 hours walk).

The person in charge of the shelter is EOS. Tripoli



Mainalo Shelter - Tripoli

From the shelter the path leads to the public road Tripoli - Kalavrita, which we follow in the direction of Tripoli for 2 km to reach the village Kapsa, after a total course of 3 hours.

From Kapsa we follow the signs to the village Perithori (approximately 2.30 hours walk). From Perithori we take the asphalt road (approximately 6 km) to reach Tripoli. Tripoli is a big city with hotels and restaurants.



Tripoli - Agios Petros

From Tripoli we reach the village of Stadio (7 km.) by bus, from where we take the road to the villages Psili Vrysi, Ano Doliana (1,000 m.) and finally Agios Petros (1,050 m.) (3.30 hours walk), where there is a hotel and a restaurant.



Agios Petros - Vresthena

From Agios Petros we follow the forest road, cross the forest and reach the village Karyes (10 km). From Karyes, always crossing the forest and after a course of about 2.30 hours, we arrive at the village Vresthena, where overnight stay is only in tents.



Vresthena - Sparta

From Vresthena the path leads to the village Theologos and then we reach Sparta, after walking 2 km on the asphalt road Tripoli - Sparta. There are hotels and restaurants in Sparta.



Sparta - Anavryti

From Sparta we reach Mystras by bus (5 km), from where the path leads us to the village Anavryti (2.30 hours), where there is a community hostel.



Anavryti - Taygetos Shelter

From the villages Anavryti and after about 7 hours walk (at the end of the route there is water), we arrive at the shelter of Taygetos.

Responsible is E.O.S. Sparta



Shelter - Monastery of Panagia Giatrissa

From the Taygetos Shelter and after about 7 hours walk on forest roads with springs, we reach the Monastery of Panagia Giatrissa (1,000 m.) which is open from May to September. Overnight in the village Kastania.



Monastery - Gythio

From the Monastery of Panagia Giatrissa, after about an hour, we reach the village Kastania. From Kastania, and through the settlements of Vardounia and Desfina, the villages of Ahumata, Platanos and Agios Vassilios, we arrive in Gythio, where the final destination is. In Gythio there are hotels, restaurants as well as a direct bus connection to Athens.
